I show you an example of a conservative misquoting Obama out of context to try to make it look like he was telling Latins to "punish" their "enemies." Blatant BULL SHIT.
"Obama to Latinos: "Punish" Your "Enemies" in the Voting Booth"
John McCormack
"In a radio interview that aired on Univision on Monday, Mr. Obama sought to assure Hispanics that he would push an immigration overhaul after the midterm elections, despite fierce Republican opposition. “If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’ if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s gonna be harder and that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2.” "
Credibility is not the long suit of Jim Geraghty of National Review. In some of the article Jim seemed to try to be fair, but in this quote he was just plain lying.
Now we have people saying Democrats are just as bad as the GOP in the culture war so let's keep the status quo!? Amazing!
"Even if you loathe Trump, vote Republican"
by Hugh Hewitt July 30, 2018
Hugh, you are insane to say it is better to keep a sycophant, sell-your-soul GOP in power supporting Trump!
"So here’s the question facing the voters this fall: Do they vote to ratchet up this culture of conflict and chaos, or to return Republican legislative majorities that have figured out how to work with this most unusual of presidents?"
Are you kidding me Hugh!? Do you realize you are asking to keep a potential dictator in office for the sake of avoiding a messy two years with him as President until we can vote him out? The GOP has figured out how to work with this man!? NO! They have not! The GOP is overwhelmed by Tweety, and that is not an act of "figuring it out."
"
Electing Democrats to a majority in the House or the Senate at the height of the party’s lurch left would be a disaster: Impeachment, demands for massive income tax hikes and the effort to abolish ICE would follow, while also throwing the military rebuild into reverse and the economy into paralysis because of the inability of business to predict the future with anything like certainty. A radicalized Democratic Party puffed by a Trump-loathing Manhattan-Beltway elite wouldn’t bring us a political environment as fraught as 1861 or even 1968, but the Clinton impeachment and the Watergate scandal eras are fair parallels to the atmosphere that would follow if Rep. Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) returns to power or Sen. Charles E. Schumer (N.Y.) gets his wish to run the Senate.
So even if you loathe the president, vote Republican. The downside of Democratic majorities in either house of Congress is so much larger than another two years like the last two. Both 2017 and 2018 have been polarizing and stressful for sure, but very productive for national security and economic vitality. Are most voters going to chose venting over their pocketbooks and their security? I hope not."
Good luck with the white coats Hugh. You are right that Democrats cannot benefit this country by running on a platform to impeach Tweety. I hope they do not do so. It would be stupid to do so and they will lose if they do so, therefore you logic is a wasteland.
The only way Dems or liberals win is by constructive policies, so let's hope for better thinking I the next 100 days than your idea of what Dems want.
"Obama Decries the Political Habits That Drove His Career"
by Jim Geraghty July 18, 2018
https://www.nationalreview.com/the-morning-jolt/obama-speech-south-africa-slams-habits-drove-career/
"Of course … this is the president who made Al Sharpton his “go-to man on race” and who said Latinos needed to “punish” their “enemies.” [Conveniently leaving out the voting context . . . ] It’s great that Obama realizes that identity politics can be corrosive to civil society and that they can Balkanize a once-thriving, relatively harmonious society. It just would have been good to hear this wisdom from a president instead of an ex-president."
There were better parts in Jim G's article and possibly I just do not understand what he was trying to say. Or maybe Jim was sloppy or did not expect readers to pick on his selective editing. But it seems unfair to leave out the fact Obama was talking about VOTING! You agree, right Jim?
And liberals were probably similarly excessive comparing Tweety's submissiveness to Putin and Tweety throwing America under the bus as "stupid."
"Democrats are helping Putin destabilize America"
By David Harsanyi 22 July 2018
https://nypost.com/2018/07/22/democrats-are-helping-putin-destabilize-america/
"Last week, The Washington Post published an op-ed headlined “It’s not wrong to compare Trump’s America to the Holocaust.” As with similar examples of this genre, it’s a sickening display of moral relativism that belittles the suffering and murder of millions in the service of some shortsighted and crass partisan fearmongering.
Elsewhere, Politico published an opinion piece headlined “Putin’s Attack on the U.S. Is Our Pearl Harbor,” which demeaned the sacrifice of American service members by likening a military attack on American soil that brought us into the bloodiest war mankind has ever experienced to phishing.
On MSNBC, where illiterate histrionic analogies litter coverage every day, a contributor compared President Trump’s meeting with Vladimir Putin to Pearl Harbor and Kristallnacht, just to be safe. Social media are teeming with similar hyperbole — “treason,” “traitor,” etc. — and not just from anonymous trolls."
While Tweety did embarrass the entire nation, maybe some criticism was a bit extreme.
