The retired general is being extremely disingenuous. His military training taught him al the military history he needs to know about the Civil war. He KNOWS there were compromises. The retired general is now changing his mantel to that of the ugly lying politician.

There was NO HONOR in the Confederacy in the United States, as the Confederates tried to destroy the United States.

Get real. Slave owners would not compromise on real compromises! How about allowing slaves to work for their freedom during their lifetime? How about making sure slaves could practice their religion? How about allowing slaves to keep heir families together, not selling off children? How about outlawing abuse of slaves just as we outlaw abuse of animals?
There was no urgency to free the slaves from North or South, and compromises WERE made to keep the slaves enslaved as long as possible. There was no urgency to free these human beings from beatings and murder. Dogs got better treatment and more sympathy!
In modern times we seek urgent repatriation of Americans, especially white Americans, when they are unfairly arrested in a foreign country . . . "unfair" or "illegally" arrested in the American view, of course. There is more concern in America in 2017 for three UCLA basketball players who tried to steal sun glasses in China.
Tweety or Kelly care more about the basketball players (I note they are black, but not slaves) about blacks as slaves.
