Go back in history to the 1990s . . .all was good with Russia and the people of Russia.
THEN NATO, with US approval, and support, bombed Belgrade, Serbia to stop the genocide in that part of the world, and by that, NATO and the US started he Cold War again, "Cold War 2.0." See Vice story.
Bombing Serbia might have been one of those doing the right thing might not be right if it leads to the end of planet Earth in WW III. Russia and the US have 90% of the nuclear weapons on earth.
Serbia is close to Russia and those bombs made the Russian Government and Russian people more paranoid. Russian people are known for their justified paranoia.
Paranoia is real in Russia! We need to keep it in perspective, of course, and not give away the farm to aid Russia in reducing their paranoia, but we need to stop denying that paranoia.

NATO is surrounding Russia. This justifies Russian paranoia.
And, by the way, are maybe missing the real enemy, China?
And, by the way, America seems pretty good at making enemies in 2016: Russia, China, and Islam, the people of Mexico of course, and many, many African Americans throughout the USA.
NATO has been practicing containment of the Russian empire for many, many years, justifying Russia's paranoia. Russia needs to hold off Ukraine joining NATO for any hope of a bugger state.
There is apparent reason for Russian paranoia against the USA and NATO as a whole.
Maybe Tweety Twump is right to try to assuage Russia's paranoia in 2016?
But should we trust a man who bankrupts businesses to the degree he has done, fooling banks to invest in his massive failed projects, and defrauding people into working for him, or going to his classes? Tweety Twump is a snake oil salesman, a hucksterand we are supposed to believe this man can "sell" Russia, and Putin on a "deal" that will make 70 years of Russian paranoia to evaporate?
No way! He is not that smart.
But he will get his chance.

Like climate deniers, there are Russian paranoia deniers. Our eyes tell us something else, however.
Naturally, some Americans want to deny the Russian paranoia, but I think Russian paranoia is real.
