"All societies are blind to their own violence." - @sebastianjunger #HellOnEarth
American's bad deeds started with the hypocrisy of the "Puritans."
Expected defensive comment example; likely many Americans want to refuse to believe we can do wrong, from @sebastianjunger. Sebastian's comment below proves the blindness of a nation, of Americans . . . to well known FACTs and truths of America's crimes against humanity.
Keep in mind too, Sebastian, that George Bush Jr. withdrew the United States from agreed-to jurisdiction of the World Court for war crimes. George did so because American soldiers were going to be charged with war crimes in Iraq.

"That was the most absurd narrative. Absolutely silly and foolish"
"Sebastian Junger Is Done Talking About War"
The award winning journalist and documentarian has spent the past several years immersed in combat overseas and its portrayal. Why is he stopping?

"Five years ago, Sebastian Junger formally retired from war reporting. The decision was prompted by the death of his close friend and colleague Tim Hetherington, who had just been killed in Misrata, Libya, during the civil war."
Sebastian is confusing to me.
"Sebastian Junger: U.S. veterans need to share the moral burden of war"
By Sebastian Junger By Sebastian Junger Opinions

"The country approved, financed and justified war — and sent the soldiers to fight it. This is important because it returns the moral burden of war to its rightful place: with the entire nation. If a soldier inadvertently kills a civilian in Baghdad, we all helped kill that civilian. If a soldier loses his arm in Afghanistan, we all lost something."
"The growing cultural gap between American society and our military is dangerous and unhealthy. The sense that war belongs exclusively to the soldiers and generals may be one of the most destructive expressions of this gap. Both sides are to blame."
Sebastion Junger SEEMs to ignore facts of history so he can avoid acknowledging the reality of a faulty national "pride;" see William Blume, "America's Deadliest Export: Democracy, The Truth About US Foreign Policy and Everything Else"
Sebastian does not acknowledge the obvious, so I doubt he can accept the nuance fo how US Foreign Policy has invaded and manipulated almost every country in the world.
"Debunking the Myth of American Exceptionalism"
[This guy might be a nutcase, I am not sure. His article appears on a page that tells people to NOT get vaccinated. THAT kind of advice about vaccines is dangerous and stupid.]

Tweety has said America is no innocent, and he is right. He told us this FACT during a Lester Holt TV interview. He compared us to Russia, and not in a favorable light. So Tweety knows Russia and Putin can be violent for their cause
We grow up, go to school, and hopefully read the history books that, in an ideal world, tell the truth about America, and how we became the 50 United States. That history is replete with dishonorable and violent things we did as a nation of "diverse" peoples.
"Oh, America is certainly an exceptional nation, all right, but the reality is that most of the evidence of exceptionalism should be sources of sorrow, shame and embarrassment. All American patriots, including the pseudo-patriots who espouse the classical fascist/nationalist notion of “My nation, right or wrong”, should be on their knees repenting of what America has done on behalf of that misbegotten belief, starting with the “patriotic” genocidal massacres of the aboriginal Native Americans, the quasi-genocide of America’s African slaves, the Monroe Doctrine and Manifest Destiny."
I always wonder why we point fingers at other nations, even tiny island nations like Cuba, and chastise them for human rights violations. We have no honor in doing so. Only hypocrites can accuse other countries of worse human rights records than the United States. Saudi Arabia arrested a women this week for wearing a skirt! We may never see her again as the Saudi's have a way of making people disappear. But the United States has made an entire continent of people disappear, our American Indians. We killed many American Indians so we could take the lands of this continent according to the Monroe Doctrine, our ticket to control and steal land.
"Take the fact that America leads the world in the percentage – and total numbers – of its citizens that are incarcerated (and that includes the statistics from such previously totalitarian communist nations (and now newly capitalist) such as the USSR, Russia and China)."
There are writers who try to find a rationale for so many people to be in jail. Good luck to them coming to the truth since the numbers alone show a real issue notwithstanding ANY reasonable explanation. ThTake the fact that America leads the world in the percentage – and total numbers – of its citizens that are incarcerated (and that includes the statistics from such previously totalitarian communist nations (and now newly capitalist) such as the USSR, Russia and China).e sheer numbers of people in jail proves a significant point. We put people in prison willy nilly, PERIOD, and prisons are an industry we choose to sustain.
And it is a serious joke how much we spend on our military, AND DoD cannot find BILLIONs the "misplace."
"America is – embarrassingly so – exceptional in one major area. It leads the world in military expenditures, spending approximately the same amount that the rest of the world combined spends, despite the fact that there are no nations that have the naval, air or land combat capabilities that could repel or withstand even a single day of full-fledged American military assault (for which the Pentagon probably already has contingency plans). Every American Special Forces soldier knows in his heart of hearts that, compared to his highly lethal, highly trained killing unit, Nazi Germany’s Wehrmacht soldiers and Luftwaffe airmen were pussies."
More.
"America’s political elites represent only 5% of the world’s population, and yet, because of the Myth of American Exceptionalism, they act like they deserve to rule the world. If the truth were to be told, American politicians are often the laughingstock of the rest of the developed world because of their obvious historical illiteracy and their moral imbecility. "
