Affirmative Action is not a white person's program, therefore many white people, and even some black people, think it should be overturned.
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
When we can ALL, especially white people, judge everyone by character, not color, gender, sex preference, religion, poverty, money, or other, then we can do away with Affirmative Action.

Fix every unfair, racist, "slavery hangover" challenge black people face BEFORE they apply for college and I would agree we do not need Affirmative Action! BTW, these "challenges" include rich people buying off employers, doctors and colleges for special treatment and other advantages, and for colleges not giving a pass to unqualified white kids whose parents donate a lot to that college, have political clout with the government, or are Alumni.
Perhaps we can say progress has been made and adjustments are justified, like increasing HIgh School programs preparing blacks for college, and not allowing preference by color for college entrance, use merit only once preparation for college OR TECHNICAL TRAINING AND INTERNSHIPS, e.g., medical, software technician, etc. is equalized.
To repeat, ELIMINATE college preference for large donations and Alumni!
EQUAL treatment, means equal footing, an equal starting point, right!?
"Most white Americans will never be affected by affirmative action. So why do they hate it so much?"
Asian Americans are at the center of the legal battle over Harvard’s race-conscious admissions policy. But it’s white Americans who most oppose affirmative action.
"White Americans, on the other hand, have stronger views on the issue. They are more likely than any other racial group to oppose affirmative action, with nearly two-thirds opposing such policies, according to a 40-year study of public opinions. By comparison, only 10 percent of black people opposed affirmative-action policies.
Why are whites against Affirmative Action when they are unlikely to be impacted by it?
". . . the vast majority of Americans will never be directly affected by these policies. Of the approximately 2,000 four-year not-for-profit colleges and universities in the United States, only 352 consider race [sociologicalscience.com] in admissions or about 18 percent. Only 124 “highly selective” colleges, such as Harvard, consider race as a factor. Thus, these highly selective, race-considering institutions represent only about 6 percent of four-year institutions in the United States. Most students do not consider applying to these colleges, whether because of their geographic locations, their academic competitiveness or their elite status and high tuition costs. So why do many white Americans so vehemently oppose race-conscious college admissions?
In general, whites favor class-based, “colorblind” policies for college admissions. This allows them to minimize difficult discussions about how the history of racial exclusion and continuing discrimination in the United States influences inequality today."
Why are whites against Affirmative Action when they are unlikely to be impacted by it? White people who have a problem with Affirmative Action cannot identify with the black experience. White people ignore discrimination because they are not discriminated against.
"It’s important to remember that these institutions have been exclusionary by nature since their founding. Highly selective colleges, and most colleges and universities in general, were built for and have focused on the educational and employment opportunities of white students. Racial and ethnic minorities were excluded from these spaces regardless of how qualified they were. This history explains why race-neutral admission processes fail to produce more diverse campuses."
Why do black people want to get into elite schools? Black people should "stay in their lane." What's wrong with starting on an equal footing? Nothing, IF we truly started on an equal footing!
"White Americans are invested in maintaining the status quo. The elite college sector holds a strong grasp on the possibility of getting into the high-paying, high-prestige firms in the U.S. Often, the marker of whether you are worthy of consideration for one of these positions is being admitted to an elite institution like Harvard. They are the gateway to the elite sector of society filled with financial security and prestige."
Well, what's your answer?
" . . . a majority of white families and their children rarely consider these elite institutions to pursue their college educations. In some cases, they outright disdain these colleges and label them ‘elitist.’ Still they oppose affirmative action policies such as race-conscious admissions more than the rest of the nation. They are holding on to a societal legacy of racial exclusion that allowed generations of white Americans to find their way to financial security."
"Why Do Individuals Oppose Affirmative Action?"
Making sense of resistance to affirmative action
Eddy Ng Ph.D. Diverse and Competitive Posted Jun 20, 2016
"Affirmative action has been a controversial and divisive issue. In Canada, affirmative action (or employment equity) is aimed at redressing past inequities and promoting the hiring of underrepresented groups. Women, visible or racial minorities, Aboriginal Peoples, and person with disabilities have historically faced discrimination in the workplace, and they form the four “designated groups” under the Canadian affirmative action policy. "
Canadians dislike Affirmative Action too . . . and the reasons are the same as in USA.
"Individuals may oppose affirmative action because they: harbor racist or sexist attitudes (taste discrimination), deny their own privilege and do not understand the challenges faced by marginalized groups, or subscribe to the principle of meritocracy. Yet, others may support affirmative action because they understand the historical challenges faced by designated group members (see why men may be supportive of affirmative action)."
One has to know who Affirmative Action (AA) is trying to assist, and what assistance is provided. In the USA it is pretty obvious who - black people. AA is NOT about pay!
